Liberia a Possible Target for Trans-national Drug Trade; Judiciary Readiness Underscored
The United Nations Chair of the Country Specific Configuration for Liberia Office of the Peace Building Commission, Zeid Raiad Zerd Al-Hussien today paid a courtesy call on the Supreme Court during which He and his team had a meeting with Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
Ambassador Al-Hussien disclosed, during the meeting that trans-national organizations from Latin America which deal in drugs have now targeted West Africa as the new transit point to get drugs into Europe whose consumption of these drugs, according the Ambassador have doubled in the last decade.
New Liberian Law Book CompletedA delegation of the Law Reform Commission of Liberia paid a brief visit to the Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, during which it made a presentation of 40 copies of the latest edition of the Liberian Law Report, Volume 42. Law Reports are books compiled and printed by authorized agencies of most countries, which contain the Supreme Court’s opinion in the number cases which the Court hears for the period which the book covers, usually a term of court or more. The Law Reports normally contain case laws precedents made in various cases which serves as the bases of how the Court will rule in future case with similar facts. Judiciary Retires 43 Employees On FridayThe Judicial Branch of the Liberian Government will on Friday, January 14, 2010 retire 43 of its employees consistent with the Civil Service Law and Practice of Liberia. The Chinese Judiciary delegation is headed by Justice and Vice President Su Zelin of the Supreme People’s Court of China. The Chinese Delegation arrived in Liberia on Saturday, August 1, 2009 and is expected to be in Liberia until late evening of Wednesday, August 5, 2009.
