Atty. William B. Kollie Sr. , Acting Deputy Director, Training Coordinator

Atty. William B. Kollie, Sr. has had 25 years career in the academia, including 18 years as an instructor at the University of Liberia. In 1998, Atty. Kollie earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree in Mathematics/Economics from the University of Liberia. He subsequently enrolled at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree in 2011, and later admitted to the Bar as an attorney-at-law. In 2012, Atty. Kollie enrolled at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Graduate School of International Studies, University of Liberia, and graduated with the Master of Arts (MA) Degree in International Relations (with Distinction) in December 2016.

Atty. Wiiliam B. Kollie, Sr. has worked in various fields including education, banking, security, humanitarian work, and judicial education. In education, he has taught in Liberian schools for nearly 25 years at all levels (primary, secondary, & tertiary). In banking, he served in the capacities of cash officer and loan officer for 6 years at the then International Trust Company of Liberia (ITC), now International Bank (Lib.) Limited. In the field of security, Atty. Kollie served for a short while as criminal investigator with the Liberia National Police (LNP) in the mid-90s. In the field of humanitarian work, he served the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as Protection Assistant for 4 years. In judicial education, he has served the James A. A. Pierre Judicial Institute for 7 years, beginning with the post of Training Officer, and now Training Coordinator of the Institute. As Training Coordinator, Atty. Kollie provides oversight and coordination for all training programs of the Institute, including planning, organizing and implementing training programs. For the past 2 years, he has performed the duties of Deputy Executive Director of the Institute due to the elevation of the Deputy Executive Director to the post of Acting Executive Director.

Atty. Kollie has earned several Certificates including Certificate in International Protection Services (The Protection Learning Programme – PLP), conducted by the Department of International Protection Services (DIPS), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Geneva, Switzerland (2006); Certificate in Customary Law and Land Tenure in West Africa, at a regional judicial conference which brought together judges, magistrates and other senior judicial personnel from West African Countries, held in Cote D’Ivoire (2012). He has played leadership roles in many organizations, including President of the Margibi Bar Association, a local chapter of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), a position he still holds.

Atty. Kollie sees judicial education as a sine qua non for judicial reform in Liberia. His demonstrated passion for judicial education, blended with his academic and professional background, has built for him a professional coalition critical to advancing the mission of the Institute.
